Your faith in why a Government acts in the way it does is admirable. I do not share your optimism in our Governments as we work closely with politicians and indeed they are driven by politics not what is right or wrong. Toro held their community consultation in Wiluna on the day of a funeral. They know the funeral was on and proceeded regardless of this - this is insulting and insensitive to the community and shows there is no commitment to consultation. Toro may have ticked the boxes but their commitment to proper consultation is simply not there. Listening to concerns and addressing concerns are two entirely different things.

There is no evidence that uranium mining has "come a long way" there are still regular accidents at Ranger uranium mine and there are legacies around the country that cannot and have not been cleaned up. It is not the communities responsibility to give uranium miners another go. The industry has let us down time and time again if they truly want a social license to operate they need to show us how they can clean up a site and how much it costs and that those costs will not fall on tax payers - they should go to Rum Jungle, Mary Kathleen, Narablek, Pt Pirie and clean up those sites. Toro have representation with the Australian Uranium Association - through that industry lobby group they should prove to us that they can do it.

There has never been a uranium mine in Australia that has been rehabilitated properly. There are existing mines with long records of spills, accidents and license breaches. There are workers who speak out about their leukemia and dead colleagues and bosses. Why would we trust this industry? Perhaps they should also do a health study of former workers based on the new National Dose Register and prove what the health impacts of this industry really are. We are asked time and time again to trust and believe in and embrace this toxic industry when they have failed us time and time again on a range of issues and then when things go wrong they deny responsibility and point the finger blaming something or someone else for their mistake.

The EPA has assessed a draft document and have deferred a large part of the assessment to the Department of Mines and Petroleum. The EPA are under resourced and unable to fulfill their full function as an EPA - the EPA assessment was deeply flawed was subject to a number of appeals and is likely to be challenged further.

Hi to All

I wish to congratulate Toro Energy in its approach to satisfy the community in its endeavours to start safe production of uranium at its mines. This is all based on its 4 years of research, public consultation, government consulatation

If you read their report they do actually state that the local community was engaged in discussions and that all parties were pleased with the outcome, especially with the local sacred sites as listed in their report. The WA government would have never have approved if they thought this company was no ready to begin production.

Uranium has come a long way since the days when it was handled poorly. The EPA are satisfied that Toro Energy is a sound company and its directors are highly skilled and have a plan put in place which includes safety.

They are an Australian company and it should be govenment policy to forbid foreign owned groups owning and running Uranium mines. If any action you may take should be towards foreign ownership controlling Australian assets ie: Uranium.
